We had my baby shower yesterday and it was great to have all my friends up here. Things have been so far from what we are used to for the past few weeks that it was nice to have a chance to just slow down and catch up with old friends. My college friends are scattered throughout the country and I was lucky enough to have people come from DC, Philadelphia, NYC, and Connecticut. My mothers friends also came out in full force which was great as most of them have known me since I was little so its like having tons of extended family around. We had a great time with a beach themed shower and Ben received lots of great gifts that he will definitely put into use!
We went into the hospital after the shower yesterday and Ben was doing great! They reduced the pressure in his CPAP to 5 down from 6. The lowest it could go down to is 2 so we are working our way there. Josh had his first "get peed on by your child" moment when holding Ben last night. His diaper was on so we aren't sure if it was just loose or too full but all of a sudden Josh felt wet...and low and behold he was! Ben also manage to pull out his feeding tube so that had to be reinserted but he doesn't really have much of a gag reflex so he handles it well.
We spoke to his doctor last night about milestones we should be looking for. Getting off the CPAP and tolerating feeding enough so that he is 100% on milk are the next two. This could happen in the next week or so without any set backs. After that they said they will work on getting Ben to do feeding through the mouth instead of through the feeding tube. This usually starts around 31 or 32 weeks but takes a few weeks to move to that 100%. (he will be 31 weeks this Wednesday) He is still hovering around his birth weight which is good because most babies lose up to 20% in the first week, he never did. Once his feedings are more stablized he should start to gain weight more consistantly.
All in all, he is doing great and we are hoping to keep moving forward.

Kate, I'm glad you had such a fun shower; that's great that so many friends could come. And Josh, you've been officially initiated into daddyhood with the leaky diaper.
This is such a positive report on Ben's progress. How great to be able to anticipate Ben starting to coordinate the breathing and sucking process in the next couple of weeks!
I'm so glad things are going well Kate!! Thanks again for the updates...I look forward to reading them.

I'm so glad things are going well. What a good idea to ask for the milestones to watch for. Seems that he is doing well to be so tiny. I'm so happy for all of you! I eagerly await your updates and pictures.
Glad you guys are getting eased into the life with little boys and pee-pee...There literally were days when Henry was a baby that EIGHT TIMES he would somehow soak his clothes with pee, despite being fully diapered.
:) happy pee pee!
